China expands visa-free policy to nine more countries, enabling citizens from these countries to enter China for up to 30 days without visa.
China has extended its visa-free policy to nine additional countries, including eight European nations, allowing citizens from these countries to enter China for up to 30 days without a visa for purposes such as business, tourism, and visits starting November 30, 2024.
The new additions include Bulgaria, Romania, Croatia, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Malta, Estonia, and Latvia, complementing other countries already enjoying visa-free access. Officials and tourism experts from the newly eligible nations have welcomed the move as a step toward stronger bilateral relationships.
Malta’s Deputy Prime Minister Ian Borg praised the new policy as a milestone in the enduring relationship between Malta and China. Borg emphasized that the visa-free agreement demonstrates mutual trust and a commitment to enhancing tourism, business, and cultural exchanges while simplifying travel and opening avenues for deeper cooperation and international trade.
Croatian tour guide Branka Peric called the policy “great news” for the tourism sector, noting that it highlights China’s willingness to strengthen ties with smaller nations like Croatia. She expressed optimism that the move would bolster friendly relations and cooperation between the two countries.
Xie Dong, a Chinese inbound tour guide for Latvia and Estonia, echoed the sentiment, highlighting the potential of the visa-free policy to increase tourism between the Baltic countries and China. He also advocated for establishing direct flights to further boost connectivity.
Nina Merlusca, a destination manager from Romania’s Piatra-Neamt tourism hub, remarked that the visa-free policy for Romanian passport holders would foster greater cooperation between the two nations. Drawing from her own travel experiences in China, she described the country as highly welcoming to tourists.
With the latest expansion, ordinary passport holders from a total of 38 countries will now be eligible for visa-free entry into China for business, tourism, family visits, exchanges, and transit, for stays of up to 30 days starting November 30, 2024.
