The World Technical and Vocational Education and Training League, a global vocational education cooperation organization, was launched at the 2024 World Vocational and Technical Education Development Conference in Tianjin, China.
After two years of preparation, the league aims to offer a broad, balanced, inclusive, and representative international platform for vocational education, as stated by the conference organizers.
The league’s inaugural membership includes 89 institutions from 43 countries and regions, comprising universities, vocational and technical colleges, businesses, and educational organizations.
Furthermore, An Yan, deputy secretary-general of the China Education Association for International Exchange, highlighted that over two-thirds of the league’s members are international vocational education institutions, showcasing its global reach and diversity.
The league encompasses a wide array of institutions linked to vocational education and spans numerous industries, noted An Yan.
Moreover, Ethiopia’s Minister of Labor and Skills, Muferihat Kamil, described the league as a timely initiative aligned with Ethiopia’s vision for global collaboration. She emphasized its potential for exchanging best practices and forming partnerships to accelerate skills-driven development across borders, committing Ethiopia to active participation.
