President Xi urges mutually beneficial cooperation with Thailand as he met with Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn in Lima, Peru
Chinese President Xi Jinping met with Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra on the sidelines of the 31st APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting in Lima, Peru. Xi highlighted that his November 2022 visit to Thailand led to significant agreements on building a China-Thailand community with a shared future. He expressed satisfaction with the effective implementation of these initiatives, noting the progress in bilateral cooperation that has benefited the people of both nations.
Xi emphasized China’s willingness to enhance the historic Sino-Thai friendship, align development strategies, exchange governance experiences, and expand cooperation in multiple areas. He stated that these efforts would support the modernization goals of both countries and further their shared vision for the future.
Additionally, Xi urged accelerated development of the China-Thailand railway and expanded collaboration in emerging sectors such as new energy, digital technology, and artificial intelligence. He called for stronger cultural, educational, and youth exchanges and expressed China’s intent to collaborate with Thailand within multilateral frameworks like the Lancang-Mekong Cooperation, ASEAN, BRICS, and APEC to promote regional peace and prosperity.
Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn acknowledged the value of China’s strategic global initiatives amid global challenges and commended China’s success in areas such as poverty reduction. She emphasized Thailand’s desire to celebrate the upcoming 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations, marking a “Golden Year of Friendship” by boosting high-level engagements and enhancing Sino-Thai relations for the future.
Moreover, Paetongtarn expressed Thailand’s interest in learning from China’s development model, advancing projects under the Belt and Road Initiative, and strengthening their historical bond. She also highlighted the need for greater people-to-people exchanges and deepened cooperation with China in multilateral platforms like APEC to support free trade and regional collaboration.
