Chinese Delegation calls on Punjab Commerce Minister discussing opportunities in investment in various fields.

A group of Chinese investors met with Provincial Minister for Industries and Commerce, Chaudhry Shafay Hussain, at the Punjab Board of Investment and Trade (PBIT) on Thursday.

The delegation, led by Ms. Scarlett Xiang, Head of China Government Investment, discussed opportunities for expanding investment and collaboration in various sectors, including healthcare, technical education, agriculture, and electric vehicle manufacturing.

The investors expressed interest in establishing an electric car assembly plant in Punjab. The delegation head also shared plans for China’s Huawei Group to initiate an online training program for 300,000 people in Pakistan. This initiative will be implemented in partnership with the federal government and Tevta, starting in Punjab. The Huawei ICT Talent Programme 2024 aims to provide ICT training to 260,000 students, along with professional and digital economy training for 30,000 individuals and 10,000 government officials.

The Chinese investor group is also keen on setting up an electric vehicle assembly and chemical plant in Punjab, and launching the Pakistan Digital Primary Healthcare Improvement Programme. This $300 million initiative will begin in Gujrat and include the creation of 3,000 mobile clinics across the country, in collaboration with the Punjab Ministry of Health.

The program will enhance diagnostic and treatment services, especially in remote and rural areas. Additionally, the Chinese group intends to introduce high-tech agricultural projects in Pakistan.

Minister Shafay emphasized that several Chinese companies have already made significant investments in Punjab and expressed a willingness to welcome more companies in areas like health, agriculture, and technical education. He confirmed that the Chinese group would establish an electric vehicle assembly and chemical plant in Punjab with full support.

He also highlighted ongoing efforts to upgrade Tevta institutes, including introducing solar technology courses and improving labs. The Chief Minister of Punjab has launched an air ambulance service in the province, further promoting technological advancements.

Shafay emphasized the need for joint efforts in seed development between Punjab and China. He also expressed gratitude to the Chinese investors for bringing the Medical City program to Gujrat. The delegation included Huawei Pakistan’s Deputy Chief Mr. Ray, MD Mr. Hank, CTO Mr. Jayson, and other senior officials, alongside CEO Punjab Investment Board Jalal Hasan, Senior DG Tevta Akhtar Abbas Bharwana, and relevant officers.
