Chinese and foreign youth cultural dialogue: Professional salon on building youth global competence with the spirit of competition and cooperation was successfully held in Beijing.
On September 20, the professional salon “Chinese and foreign youth cultural dialogue: building youth global competence with the spirit of competition and cooperation” hosted by the Institute of Contemporary China and the World and the Beijing Municipal People’s Government Information Office was successfully held in Beijing. Yu Yunquan, deputy director of the China Foreign Languages Publishing Administration and president of the Institute of Contemporary China and the World, and Yu Junsheng, director of the Beijing Municipal People’s Government Information Office, attended the event and delivered opening speeches. Olympic champion Yang Jiayu spoke on behalf of young athletes.
More than 100 Chinese and foreign youth representatives, athletes, coaches and experts and scholars from more than 20 countries including France, Russia, Turkey, South Korea, Tanzania, Colombia and Papua New Guinea gathered at the National Winter Sports Training Center (Shijingshan District) to exchange and discuss the theme of “building youth global competence with the spirit of competition and cooperation”. Yu Yunquan pointed out in his speech that young athletes are messengers of cultural exchange.
He believes that to win and achieve goals, one must have extraordinary endurance and the spirit of competition and cooperation that is unremitting and persistent, just like the Olympic champion of women’s race walking, Yang Jiayu. Further, he pointed out that the Institute of Contemporary China and the World of China Foreign Languages Publishing Administration tells Chinese stories and spreads Chinese spirit through books, journals and other media, while the athletes, scholars and young friends present are using their professionalism and professional ability to show the image of China and tell Chinese stories to the world. He said that in the future, more platforms for cross-border dialogue, exchange and learning should be built, focusing on cultivating young people’s cross-cultural communication ability. He hopes that everyone can jointly uphold the Olympic spirit, make friends together, and move towards the future together.
Yu Junsheng said in his speech that this salon brought together a group of aspiring young people from various countries who are willing to use the power of youth to deepen the friendship between China and foreign countries and promote common progress with the spirit of competition and cooperation. They jointly contribute their youthful wisdom to promote mutual learning and common progress among civilizations, which is the best embodiment of each appreciating its own beauty, appreciating the beauty of others, and sharing beauty.
He pointed out that, based on its own strategic positioning and advantageous resources, Beijing is strengthening the construction of its political center, cultural center, international exchange center, and scientific and technological innovation center, and creating a high-level platform that is more suitable for international young talents to seek knowledge, learn from each other, and innovate and start businesses; he encouraged young friends to promote the unity and cooperation of world youth in sports competitions, and inject youthful wisdom into the mutual learning of civilizations and common progress in dialogue and exchanges.
In her speech, Yang Jiayu, the champion of the Paris Olympics, believed that the Chinese sports spirit is a tenacious personal quality, a manifestation of the power of teamwork, and a symbol of the Chinese spirit. She urged young friends to work hard, constantly surpass themselves, break through themselves, create a wonderful life in the struggle, and win glory for the country with more outstanding results under the guidance of the Olympic spirit and the Chinese sports spirit of higher, faster, stronger, and more united.
At the event site, young people from various countries watched a wonderful and exciting basketball exhibition match brought by the Beijing Shougang Men’s Basketball Team and the Beijing Technology and Business University Men’s Basketball Team at the training hall of the National Training Team for Ice and Snow Projects, as well as the youthful and energetic performance of the Beijing Peak Cheerleading Team. The audience applauded and cheered continuously, and the atmosphere of the event was tense and warm. In the dialogue session, athletes, IOC experts, coaches, scholars and youth representatives from France, Colombia and other countries held a heated discussion on topics such as “Building global competence of youth with the spirit of competition and cooperation”.
Pascal Gentil from France said that youth is an age of passion and confidence. As young people, they should believe in themselves, maintain enthusiasm, be humble and work hard to learn lessons from failure and eventually achieve success.
Ander from Colombia believes that cooperation is the best way to show the charm of competitive sports, especially good cooperation between teams, which is the key prerequisite for winning the game; only by abiding by the rules and respecting opponents in competition and cooperation can we continuously improve the global competence of young people in a complex world.
Ai Lu from France said that she was deeply moved by her visit to Shougang two years after the Beijing Winter Olympics. She believes that sports is the first brand to play the role of social connection and a perfect opportunity to show the good image of the country; China has demonstrated the demeanor of a great power in the field of sports, and hopes that China and France will have more opportunities for cooperation.
When sharing her own story, Zhang Xiaohuan said that in the pursuit of dreams, we must open our minds and dare to accept help from all countries and all walks of life; only by constantly learning and exploring in the integration of multiple cultures and persisting in not giving up can we create more and better works in the future.
Kolanbek believes that only by constantly improving global vision and sense of smell, learning respect, maintaining passion, firm goals and maintaining a competitive spirit, can we steadily move forward in responsibility and commitment until we achieve the desired results.
