Pakistan has experienced a substantial rise in its fruit and juice exports to China this year. Data from the General Administration of Customs of China (GACC) reveals that from January to July 2024, Pakistan’s frozen orange juice exports to China reached record highs, reflecting the increasing demand for Pakistani products in the Chinese market.
Ghulam Qadir, Commercial Counselor at the Pakistan Embassy in China, attributed this growth to the China-Pakistan Free Trade Agreements and efforts by the Pakistani government and exporters to diversify into new markets. He highlighted China’s growing interest in high-quality, nutritious fruits and juices, offering a lucrative opportunity for Pakistani producers.
He noted that from January to July 2024, fruit juice exports to China surpassed $1.546 million, marking a 226% increase compared to the same period last year. Frozen orange juice (commodity code 20091100) contributed over $1.54 million. Additionally, Pakistani fresh mangoes have gained popularity in China, with 4,214 kg imported by Chinese enterprises in the first seven months. Pakistan’s Prime Minister also gifted mangoes to Chinese leaders and businesses this year.
Qadir emphasized that this export growth demonstrates the potential for further agricultural collaboration between Pakistan and China. As economic ties strengthen, Pakistani fruit and juice producers are poised to establish a stronger foothold in the Chinese market.
Wei Ling Chen, Regional Director of Direct Access, a Chinese enterprise, explained that her company imported 3-5 tons of Pakistani mangoes this year. Before doing so, MERAPC Solutions researched Pakistan’s mango industry, discovering that the country, as the birthplace of mangoes, offers over 300 varieties. They selected Sindhri and Chaunsa, known as Pakistan’s best mangoes, and introduced them to Chinese consumers.
Chen stated that to maintain quality, they partnered with top mango orchards, focusing on optimal varieties, planting techniques, and proper picking and packaging. While Pakistani mangoes may not have a uniform appearance or bright skin, their pure mango flavor is exceptional.
She added that the natural sweetness and flavor of Pakistani mangoes are their key qualities. Her company provided excellent packaging, circulation, and services, overseeing the entire process from orchard picking, heat treatment, packaging, and cold chain logistics, to transport and free shipping within China via SF Express.
