Chinese envoy condemns Israeli military operation in West Bank as it continues its stance on peace and stability.
On Thursday, Geng Shuang, China’s deputy permanent representative to the United Nations (UN), strongly criticized Israel’s recent military operation in the West Bank, which resulted in at least 10 deaths and numerous injuries.
Speaking at the UN Security Council briefing on the Middle East, Geng condemned the operation, which targeted Palestinian cities such as Tulkarm, Jenin, and Tubas. He highlighted that the Israeli military’s actions, including large-scale raids, violate international law and UN Security Council resolutions.
Geng expressed alarm over recent statements by senior Israeli officials suggesting that the West Bank could be subjected to the same measures as Gaza. He described these remarks as shocking and warned that they could provoke global condemnation.
China opposes any actions or rhetoric that could increase tensions and denounces all attacks on civilians. Geng urged all parties, particularly Israel, to exercise restraint to avoid further escalation of the situation.
He emphasized the dire humanitarian situation in Gaza and warned against allowing the West Bank to suffer a similar fate, which he described as potentially turning it into “another hell on earth.”
