China always contributor to Africa’s poverty alleviation: spokesperson of Chinese Foreign Ministry Lin Jian said to address China Africa poverty reduction cooperation.
China remains a steadfast supporter of Africa’s efforts to explore new paths to modernization and plays a significant role in aiding the continent’s poverty alleviation initiatives, stated a Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson on Monday.
Spokesperson Lin Jian made these comments during a regular press conference in response to a question about China-Africa poverty reduction cooperation. He noted that African media and scholars view this collaboration as bringing new hope to the continent in achieving food self-sufficiency, poverty reduction, and an improved quality of life.
Lin emphasized that eliminating poverty is a shared mission for humanity and a common aspiration for the African people. He highlighted that poverty reduction has always been a crucial aspect of China-Africa cooperation.
He explained that over the years, under principles of sincerity, tangible results, amity, and good faith, China has actively implemented the Program for Strengthening Cooperation on Poverty Reduction between China and the African Union. Through the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), China has engaged in poverty reduction exchanges and cooperation, yielding significant outcomes.
China’s Projects in Africa
Lin mentioned that China has established and executed 47 poverty reduction and agricultural projects in Africa, trained nearly 9,000 agricultural professionals, shared over 300 advanced technologies, and benefited over 1 million smallholders through its poverty reduction and agricultural development programs.
Highlighting the impact of China’s juncao technology, Lin noted that it has enabled hundreds of thousands of local people to increase their incomes. He also pointed out that China’s hybrid rice has boosted rice yields in several African countries from an average of 2 tonnes to 7.5 tonnes per hectare. Chinese experts are setting up demonstration villages for rice cultivation to help achieve the goal of food security and financial stability for local communities.
Lin added that the agricultural cooperation parks and agricultural product processing plants established by Chinese companies have added significant value to local agricultural products.
China has also facilitated the import of quality African agricultural products through “green lanes” and initiated the “100 Companies in 1,000 Villages” program, where Chinese companies have launched 320 corporate social responsibility projects, benefiting over 10,000 villages and communities across Africa. Additionally, China has hosted numerous seminars on poverty reduction and development for African officials to share successful poverty alleviation experiences.
Lin further stated that China-Africa cooperation contributes to advancing industrialization in African countries, enabling them to achieve greater economic independence.
Additionally, he cited examples like Nigeria’s Lekki Free Trade Zone and the China-Egypt TEDA Suez Economic and Trade Cooperation Zone, which have attracted substantial foreign investment and created industry clusters that have promoted the “Made in Africa” brand globally.
Moreover, China has established 17 Luban Workshops in 15 African countries, which have significantly improved local employment opportunities, Lin added.
“We are prepared to continue our collaboration with Africa at the upcoming 2024 FOCAC Summit to further advance poverty alleviation and create a brighter future for the African people,” Lin concluded.
