China reiterates call for ceasefire talks, political solution over Palestine as China’s representative to UN, Fu Cong stated while addressing UNSC briefing on Middle East.
Fu Cong, China’s permanent representative to the UN, emphasized on Thursday that ceasefire talks and a political resolution are essential to address the Palestinian issue.
He cautioned that relying on a complete military victory in Gaza will only lead to more civilian casualties and fail to secure the release of hostages or bring peace to Israel and the region, as stated during a UN Security Council briefing on the Middle East.
Fu said that more than two months after the adoption of Security Council Resolution 2735, the Israeli military operations in Gaza continue causing new casualties every day.
Stress on International Humanitarian Law
He stressed that humanitarian issues should not be politicized, and civilian lives should not be used as bargaining tools. Fu urged Israel to comply with international humanitarian law by opening border crossings, ensuring the safe delivery of humanitarian aid, ceasing attacks on UN agencies, and supporting polio vaccinations in Gaza.
Fu argued that lasting security can only be achieved through a common security approach, with regional peace requiring responsible participation from all parties. He reiterated that the creation of an independent Palestinian state and the implementation of the two-state solution are the only viable paths to resolving the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.
China calls on Israel to immediately halt all military operations in Gaza, stop actions that escalate the situation, and remove obstacles to a ceasefire. Also, China urges influential countries to adopt a sincere and impartial stance in pushing for an end to Israel’s military actions and the killing of civilians.
Lastly, it may be assessed that China is prepared to collaborate with the international community to end the Gaza conflict, alleviate the humanitarian crisis, implement the two-state solution, and achieve lasting peace in the Middle East.
