August 20 – Alibaba.com Celebrates Pakistani E-commerce Excellence at KEL Awards Finale in Lahore in an event where finalists presented their success stories.
Alibaba.com hosted the final event of its Key E-commerce Leader Awards (KEL Awards) for Pakistan on August 20, celebrating the notable achievements of Pakistani e-commerce sellers. The event, in collaboration with the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP), highlighted the top six finalists, who presented their success stories on the Alibaba.com platform.
Following a thorough evaluation, all six finalists were named Alibaba.com Pakistan Ambassadors for 2024, with Tayyub Hussnain from Norwich Streetwear and Muzafar Hussain from JNM Leather Safety Gloves awarded Key E-commerce Leaders. They will represent Pakistan at the KEL Awards Regional Finale in Vietnam later this year.
The event also included a People’s Choice Award, which was given to Tayyub Hussnain based on audience votes. Rocky Lu, Head of Pakistan Business at Alibaba.com, emphasized the KEL Awards’ role in celebrating the entrepreneurial success of Pakistani SMEs and providing a platform for regional recognition.
Rafia Syed, Director General of TDAP, highlighted the significance of the KEL Awards in fostering the entrepreneurial spirit within Pakistan’s e-commerce sector and showcasing local businesses on a global stage.
Tayyub Hussnain, who will compete in Vietnam, received his award from TDAP’s DG, Rafia Syed, with Alibaba.com’s VP, Andrew Zheng, in attendance. Hussnain’s journey from a modest start to a successful e-commerce entrepreneur was a standout story. After graduating in 2014, he began with a salary of 16,000 PKR but was inspired by a laptop gift from the Chief Minister of Punjab to explore Alibaba.com.
Additionally, Hussnain secured his first major order of 770 pieces of clothing through Alibaba.com, which encouraged him to pursue entrepreneurship full-time. He expanded his business, focusing on market demand and quality, and achieved a milestone with a $1 million order in 2023. His story exemplifies the transformative power of ambition, innovation, and technology in e-commerce, supported by Alibaba.com and initiatives like the KEL Awards.
