July 31 – Beijing issues prepaid cards for tourists and international visitors to facilitate them and provide a hassle free experience.
On Wednesday, Beijing launched the Beijing Pass, a versatile card designed to ease payment for international visitors at transportation, tourist sites, and shopping centers.
The card, with a maximum balance of 1,000 yuan (approximately $140), facilitates transactions on the Beijing Subway, suburban railways, and taxis within the city. It also covers public transportation in over 300 cities across China, including major destinations like Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, and Nanjing.
In addition to transportation, the Beijing Pass can be used to buy tickets for 30 popular tourist attractions in Beijing, including the Summer Palace, Temple of Heaven, and the Badaling section of the Great Wall.
International visitors can purchase or refund the pass at 15 locations in Beijing, including the city’s airports and railway stations, with a valid ID.
The card can be topped up at 490 subway stations throughout the city or online through the “SilkPass” mobile app. Feng Ya from Beijing Municipal Administration & Communication Card Co., Ltd., which issues the card, stated that future updates will enhance the card’s features to better serve international visitors.
Beijing, a leading tourist destination in China, welcomed over 1.65 million inbound tourists in the first half of the year, marking a 245.6 percent increase from the previous year.
Other Chinese cities have adopted similar measures to improve the travel experience for international visitors. For example, the Shanghai Pass, introduced in May, offers similar benefits in Shanghai and over 330 other cities across China.
The Beijing Pass will enhance the travel experience of the visitors and tourists coming to the capital and minimize the challenges they may face in a new city.
