Leaders from various countries and international organizations have praised the China International Import Expo (CIIE) for its role in fostering multilateral trade and global development.
The 7th CIIE, which is taking place in Shanghai from Tuesday to Sunday, features 3,496 exhibitors from 129 countries and regions, establishing it as a premier global business event.
World Trade Organization (WTO) Director-General Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala emphasized that since China’s accession to the WTO in 2001, the country has been a key supporter of the organization and has contributed significantly to building capacity in the least-developed countries. She highlighted the importance of international collaboration to preserve and reform the multilateral trading system amidst increasing geopolitical tensions and challenges to global trade.
Rebeca Grynspan Mayufis, Secretary-General of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development, pointed out that China’s trade activities have a significant global impact. She underscored the message of openness the expo sends, enabling businesses worldwide to connect, form partnerships, and contribute to a more interconnected and prosperous global economy.
Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim recognized the CIIE as a platform for companies of all sizes to showcase their strengths and attract new investments. He also stressed that multinational cooperation for free trade and sustainability should aim to advance global progress, not foster competition suppression or conflict.
Moreover, Denisa Sakova, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy of Slovakia, described the CIIE as a crucial platform for international trade, cooperation, and new global partnerships. She shared that Slovakia has benefited from the expo by presenting its products and innovations to the Chinese market.
Kazakh Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov also noted that the CIIE is vital for strengthening international economic integration, offering Kazakhstan opportunities to expand partnerships and promote its goods internationally.
Additionally, Uzbek Prime Minister Abdulla Aripov highlighted that Uzbekistan is leveraging events like the CIIE to enhance its position in the rapidly growing Chinese market, facilitating greater cooperation in trade, economy, and investment.
Then, Serbian Prime Minister Milos Vucevic emphasized that the CIIE not only fosters business and commerce but also promotes cultural exchange, friendship, and mutual understanding among nations.
