China, Indonesia ‘2+2’ dialogue vows to safeguard regional stability and enhance cooperation and development.
China and Indonesia convened their inaugural Senior Officials Meeting for the China-Indonesia Joint Foreign and Defense Ministerial Dialogue (“2+2” dialogue) in Jakarta on Tuesday.
The nations reached a consensus on resolving disputes peacefully to sustain regional stability and enhance cooperation and development.
Initiated in 2023, this dialogue represents the first “2+2” mechanism China has established with another country. During the meeting, both parties acknowledged that the creation of this mechanism highlights the strategic and high-level nature of their bilateral relations.
Both nations expressed satisfaction with the progress of their relationship and committed to improving communication and collaboration. They agreed to strengthen political and security cooperation and work towards advancing the China-Indonesia community with a shared future.
China’s Third Plenary Session and Commitment to Reforms
China shared updates from the Third Plenary Session of the 20th Communist Party of China Central Committee, stressing its dedication to advancing reforms, fostering high-quality development, and pursuing modernization. These efforts, China indicated, are likely to open new avenues for cooperation and regional growth with Indonesia.
China also reiterated its stance on core issues and significant concerns, including Taiwan and the South China Sea. Indonesia reaffirmed its commitment to the one-China principle and supported resolving differences peacefully to ensure regional stability.
Both parties underscored the importance of upholding the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence and the Bandung Spirit, committing to genuine multilateralism, an open and inclusive regional framework, and leading global governance reforms to foster regional and global peace, stability, cooperation, and development.
The discussion also addressed international and regional concerns, such as the situation in Palestine. China emphasized its support for a common, comprehensive, cooperative, and sustainable security concept and expressed a willingness to collaborate with Indonesia to strengthen dialogue and coordination on implementing three major global initiatives, promoting international fairness and justice.
