Ambassador of China and Planning Minister Discuss CPEC Phase 2 where Ahsan Iqbal particularly underlined Pakistan government’s commitment to timely execution.
Federal Minister for Planning, Development, and Special Initiatives Prof. Ahsan Iqbal met with Chinese Ambassador Jiang Zaidong on Wednesday to discuss the ongoing and future initiatives under CPEC Phase 2. During the meeting, he reaffirmed the government’s strong commitment to ensuring the timely execution of CPEC projects.
The minister highlighted Pakistan’s enthusiasm to progress to the next stage of CPEC, particularly focusing on the operationalization of Special Economic Zones (SEZs) to attract Chinese investment in the country. Ahsan Iqbal is also set to visit China for a high-level forum on the Action Plan for Global Development and a Shared Future, organized by the China International Development Cooperation Agency. This visit will build on agreements made during the recent visit of Pakistan’s Prime Minister to China.
Follow Up Discussions
The follow-up discussions will center on mutually agreed projects, with particular emphasis on agriculture scholarships, IT training programs, the ML-1 railway project, and the Karakoram Highway (KKH) Phase 2 (Thakot-Raikot Section). Ambassador Jiang Zaidong warmly welcomed Minister Iqbal, noting that this is the minister’s fourth visit to China since the new government took office.
Minister Iqbal assured the Chinese Ambassador that the government is implementing the agreements reached between the leadership of both countries to enhance economic cooperation and is also taking strict measures to ensure the safety of Chinese nationals after the tragic Dasu incident.
Both parties reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening the strategic partnership between China and Pakistan through continued cooperation and mutual support, ensuring the swift implementation of the understandings reached during Prime Minister Sharif’s visit to China. The minister will depart tonight for a six-day visit to China, where he will hold consultations with senior Chinese leaders and businessmen to review progress on CPEC Phase 2.
