Air Link CEO confirms company has imported 2 units of Xiaomi SU7 while talk of setting an assembly plant is still immature.

Air Link Communication CEO Muzzaffar Hayat Piracha confirmed that the company has imported two Xiaomi SU7 electric vehicles but emphasized that decisions on setting up an assembly plant will depend on market conditions and strategic fit.

“We have always been leaders in innovation and growth,” Piracha told on Thursday.

He explained that while the company has imported two Xiaomi SU7 electric cars to demonstrate its interest in advanced technology, any plans for establishing an assembly plant will be guided by market trends and strategic considerations.

His statement follows a report by Business Recorder that Xiaomi’s electric vehicles, the SU7 Max, were seen at Karachi port. The report hinted that Air Link, which also manufactures Xiaomi smartphones in Pakistan, might launch electric cars in collaboration with the Chinese company.

At the time, Air Link did not confirm the news, but subsequent media reports, not attributed to the company, suggested it was poised to enter the electric vehicle market.

Pakistan’s Automotive Potential

In his statement to Business Recorder, Piracha mentioned that several international companies, including Chinese electric vehicle manufacturers, have already recognized Pakistan’s automotive potential and entered the market.

Pakistan is a promising market due to its strategic location and strong government support for export-driven industries, he added.

Piracha noted that there is potential for further developments and that Air Link, with its strong grasp of local market dynamics, is constantly assessing opportunities aligned with its long-term goals.

However, he did not provide a clear answer on what the import of Xiaomi electric vehicles might mean for future business plans.

“We remain committed to exploring opportunities that will reinforce AIRLINK’s presence in the technology and mobility sectors,” he said.

Air Link Communication, which reported a 382% profit increase for fiscal year 2023-24, has already partnered with Xiaomi to manufacture smart TVs at its Lahore facility.

Additionally, the company is one of two manufacturers of Tecno phones and a partner of major global brands like Samsung, Huawei, TCL, Alcatel, iTel, and GNEXT Technologies, the authorized distributor of Apple products in Pakistan
