PM Kakar’s Vision for Enhanced Pakistan-Xinjiang Cooperation

Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar has unveiled Pakistan’s keen interest in fostering collaboration with Xinjiang to advance connectivity in various facets, ranging from infrastructure development and economic integration to trade, agriculture, educational exchanges, and technology initiatives. Speaking at Xinjiang University in Urumqi, he emphasized the desire to draw inspiration from Xinjiang’s successful agricultural modernization and expressed Pakistan’s intent to establish a joint agricultural demonstration zone to introduce modern farming techniques.

Fostering Bilateral Synergy

PM Kakar highlighted the intention to forge closer ties between Xinjiang’s industries and Pakistan, particularly in the Gilgit-Baltistan region. Solar energy was identified as a promising sector for potential collaboration. He underscored the commitment to boost cultural exchanges and people-to-people connections between Xinjiang and Pakistan, extending a warm invitation to tourists from Xinjiang and other parts of China to explore Pakistan’s scenic attractions.

A Special Bond

Kakar acknowledged the deep cultural and historical links between Pakistan and Xinjiang, emphasizing the Khunjerab border’s significance as more than just a geographical boundary. It serves as a vital trade route and a bridge that unites the two nations.

Enhancing Livelihoods and Infrastructure

PM Kakar pledged to identify the unique strengths of Gilgit-Baltistan and Xinjiang and capitalize on synergies to improve the well-being of the region’s residents. As part of the consensus reached in Beijing, the Khunjerab land border will be transformed into an all-weather border to facilitate trade and people’s movement. This will involve upgrading customs and logistics services to enhance the efficiency of trade and travel.

Leveraging CPEC and Bolstering Bilateral Ties

Kakar stressed the unique and special nature of the China-Pakistan relationship, founded on mutual trust, respect, and shared aspirations. He emphasized Pakistan’s commitment to viewing its relationship with China from a long-term strategic perspective, highlighting the enduring and constant nature of Pakistan-China friendship in a dynamic global context. The partnership’s economic aspect, embodied by the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), was highlighted as a central focus in their collaboration.

Exploring History and Heritage

During his visit, Prime Minister Kakar explored the History Museum of Xinjiang University, where he was provided with insights into the university’s rich history spanning 99 years.
