Pakistani conglomerate Engro and Chinese technology leader Baidu have signed a memorandum of understanding to explore a strategic collaboration focused on AI infrastructure, research, talent development, and industrial applications.
Integration of AI
Announced on June 5, the partnership aims to advance regional digital capabilities by combining Baidu’s full-stack AI technologies with Engro’s expanding focus on digital infrastructure and technology-enabled solutions. Together, the companies plan to accelerate the practical adoption of AI across critical sectors like manufacturing, finance, and industrial operations.
Focus Areas of the Digital Partnership
The cooperation will be driven forward using PaddlePaddle, Baidu’s open-source deep-learning framework, and will target four key initiatives. The companies plan to establish industrial research centers equipped with a full AI technology stack to support localized research, alongside intelligent industry workshops designed to optimize manufacturing value chains. Furthermore, the partnership will address the regional skills gap through licensed AI education programs and certifications approved by China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology. The partnership will develop a framework to smoothly integrate AI into corporate financial and operational workflows.

Hussain Dawood, Chairman of Engro, emphasized that technology is rapidly becoming the defining source of global industrial competitiveness. He noted that organizations building these capabilities now will be best positioned to adapt and create value. He also highlighted that the joint effort will build a strong talent pipeline and support practical solutions that contribute to long-term economic growth and industrial advancement across the region. Engro is a major diversified operator in energy, agriculture, and telecom infrastructure listed on the Pakistan Stock Exchange. On the other hand, Baidu, a global AI powerhouse serving over 655 million monthly active users and listed on both the NASDAQ and HKEX.
